“Transformers” fans have flocked to movie theaters with the release of the franchise’s newest film addition, “Transformers: One”. The animated film, first mentioned in 2017 as an undisclosed animated film, has blown away fans with amazing graphics and fluid storytelling, dissolving the anxiety the underwhelming trailers gave.
Many fans of the series were hesitant of the film and had mixed opinions after seeing the first trailer. The trailers were reported to be “childish”, or too centered on fitting into the modern status-quo of advertisements instead of teasing the film itself. Those who did give the film a try walked into the theatre with low standards and walked out pleasantly surprised at the films success.
The movie follows the tale of Orion Pax and D-16, more commonly known as their gained titles, Optimus Prime and Megatron. The story focuses on the uprising of Orion Pax and the downfall of D-16, telling the story of how seemingly normal life on Cybertron divided into the factions of the righteous Autobot and the infamous Decepticon.
Well-known actors lent their voices to the main cast of characters, including Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax, Brian Tyree Henry as D-16, Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1, Keegan-Michael Key as B-127, and Steven Buscemi as Starscream. A noted positive amongst reviewers of the film was the voices, and how the actors assigned to their characters fit the role perfectly, encapsulating the raw emotion of each character into their work.
Rated as a PG film, “Transformers: One” has gained an 89% rating on the Rotten Tomato’s ‘Tomatometer’, alongside a 98% on the Popcornmeter. It has racked up almost 4,000 reviews on Google with a grand total of 4.9 stars. The film surpassed the recent DC film, Joker: Folie à deux, despite having a tremendously smaller budget.
Consider taking a movie night in and taking a look into the world of Cybertron. Despite the franchise’s 40-year reign, Transformers: One has an easy-to-follow world setting, making the lore palpable for even the newest fans. “Transformers: One” is available to watch on Paramount +, Youtube Movies, Amazon Prime Video, Roku, and Apple TV.
Marked at just under 2 hours, “Transformers: One” is the perfect time-killer to spend on a snowy day in this winter, and in the end, this tragic tale of two friends-turned-enemies may just leave you hoping for a “Transformers: Two”.
