On this season of The Bachelor, ex-contestant Arie Luyendyk, Jr. has returned to find love. After having his heart broken, six years ago on season 8 of The Bachelorette by Emily Maynard, Luyendyk has taken the role of the 22nd bachelor.

Luyendyk is a 36-year-old American race car driver and real estate agent from Wisconsin, who dated Maynard, a once single mother, back in 2012. He competed against twenty five other men for Maynard’s heart and even got to the finale, fully prepared to propose to the woman of his dreams.

By the time the season was over, however, Luyendyk was left without a fiance. “It was really hard for me to get over that relationship,” said Luyendyk to People Magazine, on his ex, who chose finalist Jef Holm. Maynard and Holm split up that same year, leading up to Maynard’s marriage with husband Tyler Johnson in 2014.

Despite his heartbreak in 2012, Luyendyk has returned to the spotlight with twenty nine women from across the country fighting for his love. Episode one premiered on Jan. 1, 2018, kickstarting the show with introductions and first impressions. From costumes to cars to cheesy pickup lines, the women of the show hit the ground running for some alone time with Luyendyk.

Now, three weeks into the show, some contestants have already begun building strong relationships while others have grown anxious over unexpected exits and fuming tension between the women. Twenty-nine-year-old contestant, Krystal Nielson has been the biggest threat so far this season, fighting mostly with contestant Bibiana Julian, who went home this past Monday.

“I think when you learn to speak to me like a normal human being and not with a fake tone, I can actually respect you and listen to what you have to say. But if you really think I’m going to fall for this little blah blah blah blah blah, you have to be kidding me,” said Julian after Nielson interrupted her time with Luyendyk, despite already having a rose.

Although Julian did not make it far this season, she will be returning for the very first, Bachelor Winter Games, premiering Feb. 18. The four episode special, hosted by Chris Harrison, will include fourteen ex-contestants from various different seasons, as well as international bachelors and bachelorettes.

The next episode of The Bachelor premieres this Monday, Jan. 22.
