One of television’s most popular families, the Kardashians, are celebrating the 10 year anniversary of their reality television show. The first episode of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” aired on October 14, 2007.

There have been numerous spinoffs of the show: “Khloé and Lamar”, “Rob and Chyna”, “Kourtney and Kim Take Miami”, and “Kourtney and Kim Take New York”. As their fame reaches its peak, many people have expressed mixed opinions regarding the family. What everyone has been dying to know for the past decade: why are they so famous?

Most people know of the Kardashians through their father’s involvement in the O.J. Simpson case as one of O.J.’s lawyers. Years after the trial and Mr. Kardashian’s death, his daughters, son, and ex-wife Kris Jenner have not only maintained, but increased, their fame.

“Honestly, before I started watching the show I did not know who that was,” Madison Catherman, a senior at Westwood High School and a big fan of the reality show, says.

The family, who have resided in the wealthy town of Calabasas for the majority of their lives, can certainly be classified as upper class individuals, but how exactly did they get to where they are?

“Kim Kardashian became famous because she was Paris Hilton’s assistant,” Catherman says. “Kylie Jenner has a makeup line, they model, now they act, clothing,” She says describing where their money comes from.

Controversy has always surrounded the Kardashian family, usually regarding their lack of talent. It seems that people simply enjoy watching the show just to see how some of the wealthiest people live their lives, specifically how their clothing, houses, cars and family vacations differ from the average American family.
