Westwood’s winter track squad had an excellent season with many students from Westwood getting All-League honors for different events. These students will constantly be looking to improve during the spring season. Both the boys and girls teams have prospects who will be looking to make an impact in the near future.
On the boys’ side of the track team, a young squad and will rebuild with promising freshmen and underclass athletes, are preparing for the step up to competitive levels. A standout player for the boys was senior Andrew Foote. Foote had an incredible winter season, scoring silver in the shot put. Currently, Foote is in top 20 in Bergen County for the shot put and is expected to move up in the spring.
Regarding Foote’s goals for the spring and how he was looking to improve individually, he said, “I am always looking for improvement, specifically in my shot put technique.” The All-League honors for the boys included Foote in the second team for the shot put, and brothers Anthony Valerie and Evan Valerie both getting honorable mentions.
The girls’ side of the track team had a very successful season. They placed third in the league meet behind Ramsey and fell just short of River Dell. Standout member, senior Brooke Wichmann, is having an amazing high school career, with multiple league, county, and state titles in her locker. She will be a loss for the team, but the girls have many others willing to step up and contribute to the team next year.
