Girls’ soccer beats Hawthorne in OT in state quarterfinal
November 3, 2017
Westwood’s girls soccer team has been in the sports spotlight this 2017 fall season, only losing one game so far. On November 2, they won their second state game 4-3 against the Hawthorne Bears in overtime. This year’s team features many freshman starters as well as four starting seniors.
Their winning streak consists of many close games and come backs, adding to all the hype surrounding them. In the third round of counties, they defeated Indian Hills 2-1 after being down for most of the game. They became co-champions of the league after tying with Ramsey 1-1 on October 30.
Their next state game will be held Monday, November 6, against Ramsey, at Ramsey High School at 2 p.m. The team will be defending their impressive record of 15-1-3 as they compete against their co-champions.
