New Westwood Regional High School guidance counselor Christopher Gibbons is already feeling the Cardinal Spirit in his short time at the school: “I love the atmosphere in Westwood High School and the students and staff have been very accepting.”
Before Gibbons joined the Westwood school district, he ran a program for the Department of Labor and the Division of Vocational Rehab Services, which is for special-needs students: “We provided a vocational training course for students who were paid to do job training.” Following that position, he was a guidance counselor at High Point High School in Sussex County.
Gibbons was very hopeful during his interview with the veteran Westwood counselors for the Guidance Department job. “I was very hopeful because it seemed like such a nice school and I was correct. They have great classes and luckily they hired me. I have several friends who moved to Westwood and their kids go here as well,” he said.
As well as being a guidance counselor, Gibbons is a coach for the Westwood Football team. “The team is awesome. It’s a special team and I have only seen teams like this once or twice in my 12 years of coaching. All the coaches are extremely professional.” Gibbon said.
Outside of school, Gibbons enjoys the outdoors. He likes to go to spend time at his family’s lakehouse and photograph animals. He also enjoys fishing, hiking, and painting.
Coming into a new school district can be difficult for many teachers. Gibbons, however, has felt at home already. “I love the atmosphere and the students and staff have been very accepting. And it’s been a great experience so far. I have been coaching and the players have accepted me, It really feels like a family,” Gibbons said.
