This past weekend a music festival called Astroworld, that was hosted and created by Travis Scott, turned into a nightmare when more than eight people were reported dead by the end of the show, and over twenty five injured. On November fifth, Astroworld festival in Houston, Texas became very dangerous when rapper Travis Scott came out to perform and the beyond capacity crowd started becoming very violent and pushing people against barricades. This caused people to become unable to breathe and move and led to a lot of people passing out or dying.

People as young as ten years old were rushed to the hospital as the night progressed. Scott’s concerts are normally known to be very violent and chaotic with large mosh pits forming throughout the concerts. He often is heard encouraging this raging behavior saying “It’s not a show until someone pass out.” Many fans in the crowd can be heard in videos screaming for Scott to stop the show because people were dying. He can be heard in a video saying “Who asked me to stop? You already know what you guys came here to do.”

People were fighting to get out of the overflowing crowd and were being helped by security and peers by the barricades to be lifted out of it. In other videos you can see paramedic trucks trying to make their way through the crowd to get help to the injured people in need. Travis Scott is now receiving tons of backlash due to him continuing the show even after seeing the paramedics in the crowd and hearing people yelling for him to stop.

Scott has multiple lawsuits against him now including the world’s largest concert-promotion company and the owner of the promoter for Astroworld Festival and others involved in the show, Live Nation Entertainment Inc. After posting an apology video on his Instagram story to which he was talking about paying for the funerals and reaching out to the families of the ones who passed, people were not pleased and he received even more backlash than before. It also just came out that he was seen at Dave and Busters for hours after the show ended with friend and fellow rapper, Drake. This caused even more criticism since he claims to have gone home right after finding out the news of the deaths during his show.

His girlfriend and mother of his children, Kylie Jenner, also posted an acknowledgment of the situation and said, “I want to make it clear we weren’t aware of any fatalities until the news came out after the show and in no world would have continued filming or performing.” This also brought out a lot of anger and backlash since Scott can be seen in many different videos acknowledging something alarming happening but still continued performing. People don’t believe either of their acknowledgements since everyone has seen many videos that prove their statements otherwise.

As a result of this tragedy, Scott was removed from the schedule from the Las Vegas Festival Grounds where he was scheduled to be the headlining performance this Saturday, November twelfth. Although no one has said exactly why he won’t be performing, the festival put out a statement saying that the “security and safety of all attending, has been and is always top priority.”
