Groundhog Day this year was celebrated on February 2, and the Groundhog saw his shadow which means there is going to be six more weeks of winter.
The Groundhog that is listened to for either six more weeks of winter or an early spring is Punxsutawney Phil. He lives in Gobbler’s Knob in Young Township, Pennsylvania and is allegedly 139 years old. February 2, 1887 was the first Groundhog’s Day.
More than 40,000 people attended this year including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. The crowd began arriving at Gobbler’s Knob at 3 a.m. on Groundhog’s Day. After Phil made his prediction, artists Brittni McCann, Marc McCann, and Brandon Sechrist performed “Knobs Got Talent 2025” on stage. The holiday brings lots of people together around the country and especially the people who live in the area by celebrating or being upset by the predictions of Phil.
The Punxsutawney Borough was filled with visitors celebrating, restaurants, bars, and stores in the area prepared for the crowds. There are many activities such as the Annual Groundhog Banquet, Groundhog Eve Wine Shine and Hops Walk, and fireworks. People who live in the area celebrate all day long and some travel to participate
