With Halloween right around the corner, everyone is getting ready for the spooky season. Decorations are being put up, horror movies being played, and Halloween themed cookies are being baked. But what about costumes? 

Some may be wondering, “What is a costume I can wear with my friend?” A good costume idea for two friends could be Cher Horowitz and Dionne Davenport from the movie Clueless. The costume for Cher should include a yellow and black plaid skirt and jacket, with a white top underneath. For Dionne, black and white plaid skirt and jacket, with a red top underneath. Another good friend costume could be Daphne and Velma from Scooby Doo. A Daphne costume could include a purple dress, hairband, and a green scarf. Velma would wear an orange sweater, a red skirt, and orange socks. 

A silly costume to try out would be Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy from Spongebob Squarepants. Mermaid Man’s costume should include a long-sleeve orange shirt with purple shells on it, black shorts with a yellow M where a belt buckle would go, pink slippers, green gloves and a star taped to the nose. Barnacle Boy’s costume should include a white sailor’s hat, glasses, a red shirt with a blue bandana around the neck, blue gloves, blue swim flippers, black shorts, with a shell where the belt buckle would go. A final fun friend’s costume for two can be Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. The costumes for Woody and Buzz could be found at a Halloween store, rather than something to piece together. 

If there are three of you, consider dressing as the Heathers from the movie Heathers. Heather Chandler would need a red hair bow, red jacket, plaid knee-high socks, and a plaid skirt. Heather Duke would wear a green hair bow, green jacket, green socks, with a black skirt. Heather McNamera would wear a yellow hair bow, yellow jacket, yellow skirt, and yellow socks. All three Heathers would need a croquet mallet. Another three person friend’s costume can be The Chipmunks, Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. Alvin would wear a red hoodie with a yellow letter “A” in the middle, and red baseball cap. Simon would wear round glasses and a blue hoodie. Theodore would wear a green hoodie.

For those who want to dress up with a significant other, a fun couple’s costume could be Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, the faces of Disney. For Mickey, the costume would include Mickey ears, the iconic white gloves, a short sleeve white button up, a black vest, a yellow bow tie, red pants, and yellow shoes. Minnie’s costume will include Minnie ears, a black long-sleeve shirt, white gloves, a red skirt with white polka dots, and black shoes. Another couple’s costume could be Mavis and Jonathan from Hotel Transylvania. For Mavis, the costume would include a black dress (or black outfit), red and black striped socks, black gloves, red sneakers, and vampire fangs. Jonathan’s costume would include yellow shorts, a Hawaiian shirt, white socks with sandals, and a backpack. A third couple’s costume would be Jim and Pam from The Office.  Pam’s costume would include a white button down, a pink cardigan with a sticker saying “Dunder Mifflin” on it, a beige skirt, and white shoes. Jim’s outfit would include a blue button down that says “Dunder Mifflin” on it, a darker blue tie, khaki pants, black shoes, and a coffee mug. A final fun couple’s costume is Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice would need a white makeup look with black eyes (not clown makeup – he’s a demon), green hair, and a black and white pinstripe outfit. Lydia’s costume should include a long red dress with a red veil, and dead roses.

A fun costume for a family of five, a good costume could be the emotions from Inside Out. Fear would wear a long sleeve purple shirt, a grey vest, and a red bowtie. Joy would wear a short blue wig with a greenish-yellow dress. Disgust would wear a longer green wig with a green dress and a purple scarf. Sadness will wear a long, blue wig, round glasses, and a blue sweater. Anger will wear a red wig, a white button-down with a red tie, and red pants. For a family of three with a young child, an enjoyable costume could be “ice ice baby”. Two people could wear ice bags over their shirts with sunglasses, and hold the baby wearing sunglasses for a very punny costume!

A popular idea for costumes is choosing something scary. A fun but freaky costume for someone could be a haunted little kid. This person would need a bow in their hair, dark makeup around the eyes to appear deceased, a dress, knee-high white socks, black shoes, and a stuffed animal. Alternatively, they could wear a hat, dark makeup around their eyes, a ripped up plaid shirt, khakis, and a stuffed animal. Another weird but cool costume for one could be a ventriloquist dummy. For this costume, one would need pale white makeup, black eye makeup, red lipstick, with two lines going from their mouth corners to their chin. They would need a black suit with a white shirt, suspenders, and a red bowtie. If one does not want to wear a suit, they could instead wear black shorts with white tights underneath to continue the ventriloquist dummy look.

No matter what costume is chosen, if you decide to wear a costume at all, the most important thing is to collect lots of candy, enjoy those around you, and stay safe!
